It is a hardy, sturdy squarely-built, small dog. Sometimes looks like the a puppy of some other breed, resembling English foxhound. In urban developments, the Beagles can become acclimated. But they require substantial outdoor activity for the "beagle lifestyle".

Beagles eager to romp and play with children, toys, or other dogs. Infact, this breed need companionship more than most other breeds. Indeed, a Beagle left to his own devices will be noisy, destructive, or both. The Beagle's compact body is longer than tall. It also has a well built physique. Their noses guide them through life, and beagles are never happier than when following an interesting scent.

Reverend Phillip Honeywood established a Beagle pack in Essex in the 1830s and it is believed that this pack formed the basis for the modern Beagle breed.

Golden Retriever - The hunting breed

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; Any white markings other than a small white spot on the forechest that does not exceed 1 inch at its longest dimension is yet another.

Labrador Retriever, the hunting dog

The Labrador Retriever, is one of several kinds of retriever dogs , a type of gun dog. It is also called Labby or Lab for short. It is widely used for hunting purposes. There are two types of Labradors, the English
Labrador and the American Labrador. Records and suveys show that Labrador Retriever is the most popular dog breed in world counting by registered ownership.

Labs are highly affable, gentle, exceptionally intelligent, energetic and good natured, making them both excellent companion and working dogs. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly
with children and equable with other dogs. They need human attention. Unsocialized dogs are reserved with strangers. This wonderful hunting breed comes in three colors - yellow, black and chocolate.

The Labrador breed was actually developed in Newfoundland. From there he moved to
England, probably with fishermen who worked the rich fisheries off the coast
of the eastern Canadian provinces. There, in order to avoid confusion with the
larger, heavy-coated Newfoundland dog, there he was called the Labrador. The original
Labrador Retriever was a versatile working dog, able to rescue drifting nets,
bring back shot waterfowl, and haul the catch to market in jog carts. Once in
England, however, his marvelous nose brought him fame as a hunting dog, a job
he relishes today.

Doberman Pinscher, the working dog breed

The Doberman Pinscher or simply Doberman is a breed of domestic dog. They were originally bred as a tracking, police or guard dog and today they excel as family and guard dogs. The breed is well known as an alert, intelligent, and loyal companion dog.

The Doberman, or Dobie as he is now called by his friends, is a fine product
of Germany. Herr Louis Doberman developed this versatile breed in the
Apolda region of Germany to suit his own need for a loyal, obedient,
fiercely protective dog to accompany him in his nightly rounds as a
policeman. Since he also worked as the local dogcatcher, Herr Doberman
had access to a wide variety of dogs to develop his large "pinscher" or
terrier. Some of the breeds used to shape the Dobie include the pinscher , Rottweilers, and Thuringian
Shepherds. Other breeds that contributed their genes are black
Greyhound for elegance and sleekness, Great Dane, Weimaraner and German
Shorthaired Pointer.

Although the breed standards
vary among kennel and breed clubs, the dog typically stands between 26
to 28 inches 27.5 being ideal, the bitch is typically
somewhere between 24 to 26 inches, 25.5 being ideal.

Dachshunds, the companion breed

Dachshunds are a very clownish breed and can be very mischievous at times. A very intuitive dog, the Dachshund is now most commonly used as a companion rather than a hunter. There are three varieties of Dachshund: the short-haired, the wired-haired, and the long-haired. Sporty and devoted the Dachshund makes an excellent family dog. Despite his small size he makes a good watch dog with a surprisingly loud bard.

The breed's name is German and literally means "badger dog" from Dachs, badger, and Hund, dog. The standard size was developed to scent, chase, and flush badgers and other burrow-dwelling animals, while the miniature was to hunt rabbits.Dachshunds are recognized by their long bodies and short legs. Their design is the epitome of form following function. They are low to the ground, which allows them to enter and maneuver through tunnels easily. Their senses are all well developed too. They have an average life span of 12-15 years. The standard Dachshund weighs between 15 – 25 pounds and stands to about 5-10 inches at the shoulder, while the miniature Dachshund weighs approximately 9 pounds and stands a maximum of 14 inches at the shoulder.

Before you make the decision of owning a Dachshund it is your responsibility to learn about the good and bad associated with the dog. While you will discover Dachshunds are a wonderful breed, they may not be a suitable choice for you.

More German shepherd dog pics

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; - Max von Stephanitz, Father of the German Shepherd Dog

The German Shepherd Dog, is also known as "the Alsatian". It is very strong , well proportioned, alert, full of life and handsome dog.The dog looks longer than tall, deep-bodied, and presents before an outline of smooth curves rather than angles. This breed forms a nice pet dog for homes.

The German Shepherd Dog is longer than tall, and the most desirable proportion as 10 to 8½. The length is measured from the point of the breastbone to the rear edge of the pelvis, the ischial tuberosity. The required height for males at the top of the highest point of the shoulder blade is 24-27 inches, and for bitches, 22 to 24 inches. The desirable long proportion is not derived from a long back, but from overall length with relation to height, which is achieved by length of forequarter and length of withers and hindquarter, viewed from the side.

The German Shepherd Dog usually varies in color, and mostof the colors are permissible. Strong rich colors are preferred though. Although many other color variations do exist, any color markings other than black or liver are considered as a disqualification in purebred Dalmatians. The Dalmation is said to have had its origin in Dalmatia on the Adriatic coast. Certain evidences sugegst that the Dalmations originated in India and was transported to Greece by Indian Merchants of old times. One of the oldest breeds, the Dalmatians has remained relatively unchanged for centuries.

Dalmatians do not look like any other breed. The rounded spots of jet black or deep brown are unique to them. The Dalmation puppies are born all with with a pattern of spots developing in the first weeks of life. The Dalmatian is strong-bodied, clean-cut and distinctive. This breed is quiet, but with a bark very easily identifiable as play or purpose. They have a high protective instinct, able to defend and making an ideal guard dog.

Around 15% of Dalmatians are born deaf. While such a handicap disallows the dog from the show ring, the deaf dalmatians can be easily trained to hand signals.

Great Dane, the manly pet

The Great Dane is the most sought out dog ever for professional grooming. It is a dog with dignity, strength and elegance with huge body and a powerful, smoothly muscled,well-formed body. It is one of the big working breeds, but is unique in that its general conformation must be so well balanced that it never appears clumsy, and may move with a longer reach and very powerful drive. A Great Dane must be spirited, courageous, never timid; always friendly and dependable to a great extend. This physical and mental combination is the characteristic that gives the Great Dane the majesty possessed by none of other breeds. It is particularly true of this breed that there is an impression of great masculinity in dogs, as compared to an impression of femininity in bitches. Lack of true Dane breed type, as defined in this standard, is a serious fault.
The great Dane is a breed that needs plenty of exercise. It should be either taken out for a walk or should be given some serious training everyday. It will be fine in a apartment if it is given exercise to the extend told above. It lives under 10 years.

What is a Polydactyl or Hemingway Cat or Mitten Cat

A polydactyl cat is a cat that has unusual number of toes on one or all of its paws as a result of a cat body type genetic mutation. Normally cats have five toes in each front paw and four toes on each hind/back paw. But Polydactyl cats may have as many as seven digits on front and/or hind paws, and various combinations of anywhere from four to seven are common, although each of the front and rear paws are typically the same. Polydactyly is generally found on the front paws only.Polydactyly of all four paws are less common. It is extremely rare for a cat to have polydactyl hind paws only. The cats of this kind are considered as a symbol of well being in certain regions and the same are also considered opposite elsewhere. There is no special care need to be taken in grooming of these cats.Polydactylity is caused by genetic anomaly.

Basic Bulldog grooming tips

Bulldogs are descended from ancient Asian Mastiffs, the English Bulldog was developed in Great Britain by crossing the pugs with bulldog descendants of the Mastiffs. The result was a small dog which was wide and compact with a very large head that has an intimidating look with a lot of folds in the skin. The look made it different. They are very well suited for apartment living.

Do you know that your Bulldog should be thoroughly brushed at a minimum of three times a week? Bulldogs love to be brushed. Use one with soft bristle or rubber brush. Begin at the rear and brush against the hair. When you've brushed the entire dog against the grain, brush it with the grain. Follow this with a good rub down. This will keep hair shiny and skin healthy. During the time of shedding, spring and fall, you may need to brush more often, give more frequent rubdowns. The technique is to remove the dead hair and distribute the natural oils. These things make bulldog grooming an art.

Egyptian Mau , the natural domestic

As adults, they should be fed twice a day because of their tendency to bloat, a dietary condition which can be serious at times. The Rottie will do okay in an apartment if it is sufficiently exercised. They are relatively inactive indoors and a small yard will be sufficient.

The temperament of the Rottweiler can vary. Some can be very affectionate and somewhat of a clown, while others can be bullies. So it is important that proper breed is selected.

The best guard dog - Bull mastif

The bullmastif is the best guard dog.The Bull mastiff was first obtained by crossing 60% Mastiffs with 40% Bulldogs in the country of England. Mastiff Bulldog types can be found in records as early back as 1795. Most plans or gadgets enable owners, literally, to declare war on their hapless pets. Little or no concern is afforded to what the dogs happen to think about them. In fact, the implication is that dogs don't think at all ... either they just react to external stimuli like robots , or respond according to genetically controlled "drives." Dogs are rarely credited with the ability to solve a problem mentally; to analyze a situation; imagine ways to manipulate or control it, then take a pre-planned course of action toward a goal that was preconceived in the dog's mind. In short, the dog is considered a real dummy, then treated like a dummy. But this concept is not correct. Dogs are smart. They can, and usually do, think rings around their owners. And they can do it because most owners have never learned how to think like a dog.<img border='0' id='BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5123990394400003602' alt='' src='http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_O0r3iLo8CSE/RxwSHZq51hI/AAAAAAAAAAw/2T2q_aMCgsE/s320/060215_PeriPets_vl.widec.jpg' style='margin: 0px auto 10px; Tips on these topics are offered here.
Grooming can start right away with the new puppy. Many owners think that it is a mistake to bathe or brush dogs under six months of age. They worry that bathing will dry out the coat or that brushing may be too rough on a puppy at this age. The opposite is actually true. Many puppies will come from the breeders or humane society with a dirty or smelly coat. These dogs need to be bathed and it will do no harm. There are numerous shampoos on the market designed to be gentle on a puppy’s skin and hair coat plus most of these will not burn or irritate the eyes. Whenever a puppy gets dirty, it is okay to bathe him.

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; Dogs are one of the most popular pets - they are intelligent and great fun. If you want a dog then you should know:
* dogs like to be with other people or dogs - they do not like to be alone for long
* dogs need a garden to play in, and you need to
take your dog for a walk every day
* you need to brush your dog's fur often - and you also need to look after its teeth!
* you should never leave a dog in a car in warm or hot weather
<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt;
